WHAT IS CAMU CAMU?
Camu Camu (Myrciaria dubia) is a fruit originating from a small tree in the Amazons, which grows between November and March. Its color is dark red, and when it’s ripe, it gains a purple color. It has an acid pulp with little seeds.
Camu Camu is composed of fibres, proteins, vitamins, tiamin, niacin, riboflavin, vitamin C and minerals including calcium, phosphorus, potassium and iron.
For each of its components and for the quantities present in each of them in Camu Camu, we can evaluate the advantages when you include it in your diet. So:
Vitamin C present in this small fruit is around 30 times higher than Vitamin C in an Orange. Since it possesses this high concentration of vitamin C, Camu Camu becomes a source of protection against free radicals, as well as preventing its reproduction.
Vitamin C is also important in collagen synthesis, in the production of energy and the maintenance of the immune system and the transmission of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine.
We can also verify that this small fruit possesses 3 times more niacin, 10 times more iron, 50% more phosphorus and double the quantity of riboflavin.
Other components present in Camu Camu are anthocyanins that have antioxidant properties.
Help the renovation of vitamin E and reduces the damage caused to DNA in pro-inflammatory cytokine cells.
Besides all of the aforementioned components, this fruit also counts with beta-carotene, leucine, valine, serine, alpha pinene, d-limonine and amino acids.
Camu Camu stimulates the cardiac system, retards aging and complements breast cancer treatment.
No contraindication is known for the consumption of Camu Camu. Just like any other food, it shouldn’t be consumed in excess.
